The second call to participate in the clinical trials of the Sinopharm vaccine against COVID-19 in Peru will increase the number of participants to ensure the recruitment of the 3,000 volunteers required for the study, reported Eduardo Ticona, coordinator of the research team at San Marcos University.

"We are going to increase the number of enrolled participants, because some people have medical concerns that prevent them from participating in the clinical trials," Ticona told Andina news agency.

"These participants, other than the 3,000 required for the study, will be put on a waiting list," he explained.

Volunteers wishing to participate in these clinical trials —carried out by the Chinese laboratory Sinopharm in Peru in order to test the effectiveness of its COVID-19 vaccine— can register here starting at 6:00 p.m.

Participants cannot have previously tested positive for COVID-19 and have to be 18 years old or older. There is no age limit to participate in these trials.

In this sense, Ticona called on young people to help their parents and senior citizens to register online because a greater number of people from said population is required now since they did not volunteer as part of the first group.
