The
Mexican Embassy in Peru reported that the visa requirement for Peruvians seeking to visit Mexico is temporary and will be re-evaluated from time to time by the Mexican government.
Adolfo Zepeda, head of political affairs at the Mexican diplomatic mission in Peru, told the media that as of April 20 Peruvian citizens will only be able to enter Mexico with a visa, so appointments will be made available for the corresponding applications.
In addition, he explained that Peruvians who are holders of a valid visa or permanent residence in the United States, Schengen Area countries, among others, are exempt from this requirement.
"This measure (the visa requirement) is temporary and will be analyzed and evaluated by the Mexican government from time to time," the embassy representative said on Monday.
"Besides, the measure will be eventually eliminated, depending on whether this irregular migration phenomenon that we are facing is regularized, in open and direct dialogue together with Peruvian authorities, generating cooperative actions to decrease this number," he added.
Priority attention
Afterwards, Zepeda underscored that those Peruvian citizens who bought their tickets or made reservations before the announcement of the measure are being given priority.
They will have to visit the visa section of the Mexican Embassy's website, where they will find a specific form to process their requests in advance.
The embassy representative explained that the second group is made up of those who have not bought tickets yet, adding that they will have to log in into the consulate's app to schedule any of the many appointments that have been made available.
