MEF may revise upwards Peru's 2018 GDP growth projections

Economy and Finance Ministry (MEF) might revise upwards its Peru 2018 GDP growth projection of 3.6%, bearing in mind the good performance of the economy over the first quarter of this year and the positive forecasts for April and May.

"Yes, the (2018 GDP growth) projection could be revised upwards," Deputy Economy Minister Cesar Liendo told El Peruvian official gazette when asked about the possibility of raising its GDP forecasts. 

It must be noted Peruvian economy expanded 2.81% last January, followed by 2.86% (February) and 3.93% (March).

In this regard, MEF estimated the Inca country's economy may have grown over 5% in April and May.

Other projections

For its part, Central Reserve Bank (BCR) noted its April GDP forecast might be higher than its March estimate, according to some leading indicators.

On the other hand, private-run banking institution Banco de Credito (BCP) projected the economic activity may have increased over 5% in April.

Also, it forecast the country's GDP will experience a 4% growth in the second quarter of 2018, underpinned by fishing activities.
