BBVA Research: Peru GDP to expand 4% in 2Q 2018

15:15 | Lima, Apr. 17.

Peru's GDP will register a growth rate of between 3.9% and 4% in the second quarter of 2018, BBVA Research Chief Economist Hugo Perea projected Tuesday.

"We hope Peruvian GDP will expand 3.9%, nearly 4% in the second quarter of this (current) year," the officer expressed.

Said rate would be underpinned by the good performance of sectors: hydrocarbons, non-primary manufacturing, and construction.

First quarter

Peruvian economy may have accelerated in 2018's first quarter and reached a 3.2% GDP growth rate in inter-annual terms, the highest expansion in one year and a half.

On the side of demand, growth was mainly underpinned by public spending, which led to the favorable performance of the construction sector.

Progress in the economy was registered, despite the hardships such as: constant domestic political noise, and prosecutors' investigations on several construction companies, among others.

End-2018

Likewise, he forecast Peru's economic activity would expand 3.2% in the current year boosted by construction, non-primary manufacturing, services, and fishing sectors.
