Peruvian mayors conveyed their support for the constitutional dissolution of Congress —
announced Monday by President Martin Vizcarra— saying this is a great opportunity to usher in a new political era.
Likewise, they urged the Executive Branch to carry out the major state reform from the bottom up.
"Local governments are the basis of the State's democratic system. Our closeness to the population must be imbued with more powers, resources, and capabilities," they added.
In this sense, regional governors called on the population to remain calm and to be vigilant in the defense of the rule of law.
Moreover, ANGR Head and Cajamarca Region Governor Mesias Guevara noted that Congress members must accept their reality and keep in mind that only the Permanent Commission of Congress will continue to function.
"The congressional majority must understand that they do not represent the people anymore," Mesias said.
