Peru's president Alan García sworn in nearly 30-year veteran of the Washington-based IMF Luis Miguel Valdivieso as new minister of Economy and Finance, replacing Luis Carranza, who resigned due to personnal reasons.
Ministers of the Cabinet, led by the president of the Ministers Council, Jorge del Castillo, congressmen of the Republic and other guests attended the oath ceremony.
The president’s wife Pilar Nores, the first vice president of the Republic of Peru, Luis Giampietri, as well as the chairman of the Congress, Luis Gonzales Posada, also attended the ceremony.
Since 1980, Luis Valdivieso,58, worked for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as Adviser of the Directorate of the Asia & Pacific Department.
He worked on IMF structural reform programs in emerging markets including Mexico (1982-1987) and Russia (1992-1996).
He also served as the IMF’s chief of mission in Cambodia and Laos in the late 1990s and early 2000, and was responsible for monitoring governance issues in the IMF, in areas such as Administrative Simplification.
