Peru’s outgoing minister of Economy, Luis Carranza, noted that his successor, Luis Valdivieso, is an extremely qualified person to hold the office of the Ministry of Economy and Finances (MEF) and take the reins of the country's economy.

"I believe he (Luis Valdivieso) is a highly qualified person to assume the challenge of managing the Ministry of Economy, this is the most difficult ministry to manage", he said on a local TV program.

Carranza added that Valdivieso has extensive experience in the International Monetary Fund, and that he met him in Washington when they held meetings with Peruvian economists.

On the other hand, Carranza explained he has resigned only due to family reasons and not because of problems or disputes with other members of the cabinet.

Also, Carranza mentioned he was not afraid of being the country’s minister of economy, because it was a great challenge and responsibility.

"I am an economist with a solid training, I know what the country needs to grow and develop," he said.
