The
Organizing Committee of the
Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games —the largest multisport event in the continent— has launched Lima 2019 Security Plan along with Peru's Armed Forces, National Police, Civil Defense, and Fire Department.
More than 34,000 officers of all institutions participating in the plan will ensure the security of
the Games by air, sea, and land.
Peru's Air Force, Navy, Army, and National Police will monitor the venues during the course of the competitions.
Some 23,000 police officers will patrol the streets, while Civil Defense will set up mobile command units and firefighters will remain vigilant in case an emergency arises.
Innovative security
Lima Organizing Committee President Carlos Neuhaus noted that the country is ready to welcome the best athletes from the Americas and provide the security they need to participate at the Games without a hitch.
"We will break ground in terms of sport security at this multisport event, not only with the implementation of traditional security, but of cybersecurity, intelligence services, and measures that will allow us to experience a top-level spectacle without a hitch, with more than
400 million people watching us from around the globe," he emphasized.
National Police Commander-General Jose Luis Lavalle said the deployment of his personnel will not affect safety in the city —on the contrary— it will contribute to the success of competitions.
Likewise, he underscored that more than 1,000 security cameras will be monitoring the Peruvian capital from a C4 Video Surveillance Center operated by the police.
