Lima 2019 President: "400 million people across the world will be watching us"

09:06 | Lima, Jul. 20.

Lima 2019 Organizing Committee (COPAL) President Carlos Neuhaus underscored the Pan American and Parapan American Games will be a spectacle watched by around 400 million people all over the world.

According to Neuhaus, various delegations and journalists from across the continent have started to arrive in the Peruvian capital.

They are coming ahead of time since a few competitions will kick off before the opening ceremony, which is slated to take place July 26 at the National Stadium.

"The Lima 2019 Games will start on July 26, in a few days; however, some competitions will get underway on July 24. Participants and numerous media outlets have started to arrive," he stated.

Additionally, he stressed the Pan American and Parapan American Games, which Lima will host for the first time, constitute a major challenge.

"We will take a short break (between August 12 and 22) after the Pan American Games, which run until August 11. The Parapan American Games will begin after that, on August 23, and will be held until September 1. This is our biggest challenge," he pointed out.

According to Neuhaus, the realization of the major sporting event in the Americas requires the entire country's involvement.

"The slogan is 'Let's all play,' and here we play evenly with the mayor, the Government, leaders, and media outlets, because this event involves everyone," he indicated.

"400 million people around the world will be watching us. It is a big opportunity for the country as it will mark a before and an after. It's not only about the sports field, but everyone's behavior," he added.
