Lima 2019 Organizing Committee (COPAL) spokesman Carlos Lazarte on Thursday commented on the preparations for the
Lima 2019 Pan American Games, noting the proper development of the event on the first day of competitions.
"We started very well yesterday with beach volleyball and handball, and everyone was very pleased with how everything went," he said.
His remarks were made during the daily press briefing at the
Main Press Center at Lima Convention Center.
He underscored that the Organizing Committee is very happy with the response it is getting from the athletes at the
village and at the venues.
COPAL spokesman took the opportunity to comment on the opening ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, which will take place on Friday evening.
"It is a ceremony that will show the entire world our country and our relationship with sports," he added.
He went on to report on the welcome ceremonies for the delegations that arrived at the
village including, amongst others, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Bolivia, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Mexico, USA, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador.
"The ceremonies were very well received (…). We told them about Peruvian culture, we had a musical show, we had flag raisings, and we were very lucky to have some officials with us from the embassies and the consulates of those countries," Lazarte told the media.
On the other hand, the efforts of more than 12,000 volunteers were highlighted during the conference.
"We sincerely hope that one of Lima 2019's great legacies is the advancement of the volunteer culture in Peru," he said.
"So many young people that have joined the volunteer team are now at the village, at the venues and here at the
Main Press Center. This great number of volunteers is something Peru has never seen before and we are very proud," he pointed out.
