The district of
Lunahuana, in Cañete province of Lima, expects to draw more than 20,000 tourists from August 2-4 as part of the canoe slalom competition at the
Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
The announcement was made by
Cañete Province Mayor Segundo Diaz de la Cruz, who stressed that Cañete River-related tours were improved thanks to a joint effort with the Regional Government of Lima.
"Besides, the security of visitors has been coordinated with the police, and we have municipal guards patrolling the streets," he affirmed.
The provincial municipality expects a tourism and gastronomy boost. Plus, it plans to support local craftwork businesses and the hotel sector to cope with it.
Tourist destinations
The Provincial Municipality of Cañete, through its Economic Development Department, invited tourists to visit the city of San Vicente de Cañete, located within the district of the same name.
The abovementioned city is known as the "Cradle and Capital of Afro-Peruvian Art."
San Vicente de Cañete's tourist attractions include Hacienda Unanue, an estate built over an ancient huaca (sacred place) that dates from the 19th century.
An important tourist destination, which is an hour away from Cañete, is Pacaran. This place is located between the towns of Jacalla and Zuñiga.
Referred to as the "Land of Eternal Spring and Pisco," Pacaran has a varied gastronomic offer including dishes like Sopa Seca (a potato, pork, and chili stew served with seasoned noodles), Tamal de Chancho (a corn-based dough stuffed with pork and wrapped in a leaf), and Picante de Camarones (Peruvian-style spicy shrimp stew).
Pacaran's principal attraction is the Church of San Francisco de Asis (Saint Francis of Assisi) —the town's patron saint.
