The sensational brother and sister duo from Peru, Jorge and Deysi Cori Tello, are the favorites to win their respective categories at this year's World Youth Chess Championship in Caldas Novas, state of Goiás, Brazil.
The president of the Peruvian Chess Federation, Augusto Millones, is confident that the teenage chess prodigies have what it takes to capture gold in the November 17-27 tournament.
Woman Grandmaster Deysi Cori made history on Monday as she became the first Peruvian player to claim the World Junior Girls title. The 50th World Junior and 29th Junior Girls Championships took place August 1-16 in Chennai, India.
"I believe in Deysi's genius and intelligence and I'm positive that she will win gold in Brazil. In India, she dominated the Under 20 category, now in the U-18 she won't have any problems," Millones told Andina.
He also heaped praised on 16-year-old Jorge, who is no stranger to medal podiums having been crowned champion in the U-14 boys division at the 2009 World Youth Chess Championship in Antalya, Turkey.
