The Hiram Bingham road up to Machu Picchu has been reopened after a month of repairs and cleaning. The path was closed due to rockslides caused by heavy rains.
Transport from the valley city of Aguas Calientes to the Inca site has been normalized and is proceeding as scheduled. Visitors can access Machu Picchu from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Peruthisweek reported.
Heavy rains have caused serious damages in large portions of the interior of Peru. In the Cusco region, thousands of people experienced periods of isolation when flooding cut their towns off from the rest of the world.
Earlier in the week, landslides triggered by heavy rains washed away a bridge connecting the 15th century Inca site of Machu Picchu in Peru, stranding some 250 tourists from several countries,
The stranded tourists were quickly evacuated from the area by PeruRail train on an emergency route running from Machu Picchu to Ollantaytambo at no charge.
