Within the framework of the project "Improvement of Healthcare for Indigenous Peoples Living in the Peruvian Amazon," Germany will donate medical equipment to Peru in order to improve COVID-19 healthcare for native communities in San Martin and Ucayali regions.

The German contribution, valued at €1 million (around US$1.18 million), will impact the healthcare services provided to native communities in San Martin and Ucayali regions, thus benefiting some 90,000 inhabitants.

The donation also includes basic equipment such as oxygen concentrators, digital thermometers, pulse oximeters, and 32,500 COVID-19 antigen tests, as well as equipment for community health workers.

Additionally, the staff and community health workers will be trained in prevention, health promotion, and referral of serious COVID-19 cases.

Also, a strategic communication campaign for infection prevention will be implemented in native languages .

The donation is part of the agreement signed last August between the Governments of Germany and Peru to supplement actions of the Amazon Plan developed and implemented by Minsa.

The aim is to improve medical assistance in health facilities (35 in San Martin and 35 in Ucayali) that serve indigenous populations and rural populated centers.

Likewise, primary care centers will be implemented and strengthened, as they are key to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and other diseases, as well as to promote health prevention.
