The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press statement clarifying the scope of the United Kingdom's Travel Advice on Peru, regarding said country's travel recommendations to its citizens.

In this regard, the Peruvian government agency clarified that the United Kingdom has not advised its citizens against traveling to Lima and Callao, as reported by some media outlets.

"The United Kingdom's Travel Advice document states that some districts of Lima and Callao have been declared in a state of emergency until June 17, as established by Supreme Decree No. 064-2025-PCM, published in the extraordinary edition of the Legal Regulations Bulletin of the Official Gazette El Peruano," the communiqué said.

It further clarified that the areas the United Kingdom advises against for non-essential travel are the same ones it had previously warned about: within 20 kilometers south of the Peru-Colombia border, as well as the Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers Valley (VRAEM).

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the media to handle the information appropriately," according to the document released by the ministry on its social media channels last Wednesday.
