on Tuesday underscored that Peru is fulfilling all the steps required for its accession to the
, and has succeeded in institutionalizing this process in the South American country.
The high-ranking official stated that,
during his participation in the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting, he held talks with its Secretary-General Mathias Cormann, whom he invited to Peru to present the results of the OECD's Economic Survey on the country in September.
"The feeling is that we are doing very well. We have received a series of very positive adjectives from everyone. We are seen as a serious country that has taken the necessary steps to institutionalize this process in Peru," Schialer said in remarks to RPP Noticias.
"We are strictly following the roadmap that was negotiated and presented as the Peruvian State's obligations in the accession process," he added.
Likewise, the ambassador highlighted that the OECD has already approved two committees —on health and regional policy— and is about to approve another on regulatory policy.
Therefore, he said, Peru expects to receive good news on that front soon.
Regarding the accession process' completion, Minister Schialer stated that the final date will largely depend on the complexities of the remaining committees or any that may arise along the way.
He said they will do everything possible to complete the process before the current government leaves office, but added that even if that does not happen, the country has already gained a great deal in terms of achieving better policies for the population's well-being.
On another note, the ambassador reiterated his condolences over the death of Jose Avila Tuanama, a fellow Peruvian killed in an ambush in Ukraine.
In this regard, Minister Schialer stated that support for his repatriation is guaranteed.
