The Director of News Media at Editora Peru, Felix Paz, announced that more than half a million historical pages of the El Peruano Official Newspaper have been digitized, allowing it to obtain the UNESCO Memory of the World Heritage Documents Certificate for Latin America and the Caribbean.
This was announced during the main ceremony for El Peruano's bicentennial, held last night at the National Library of Peru, in the district of San Borja.
"Today we have digitized more than half a million pages; that is, all editions of the official newspaper between 1826 and 1965. We are very close to get the entire collection digitalized and available to researchers, students, and the general public," he emphasized.
He also emphasized the institutional commitment to preserving the country's documentary heritage.
Paz also explained that this process is part of a broader digital transformation, which seeks to strengthen the presence of the official newspaper El Peruano in the digital environment and modernize its content management system.
"We hope that before the end of the year the implementation of a new CMS will be finalized, allowing for greater interaction with citizens and strengthening legal security," he stated.

During his speech, Paz recalled that El Peruano has accompanied the country's history since its founding in 1825 by order of the liberator Simón Bolívar.
"We have walked with the Fatherland since its first steps after the battles of Junín and Ayacucho, preserving in our pages those moments of the birth of the Nation, its political reforms, its social and technological advances, but also its difficult times and crises," he expressed.
He also highlighted that, for the past five years, the official newspaper has ranked among the highest in public trust, according to the Digital News Report from the Reuters Institute for Journalism at Oxford University.
Finally, he reaffirmed El Peruano's commitment to the values of neutrality, transparency, and equity, especially in the context of the upcoming electoral process.
"The bicentennial motivates us to look to the future with the same spirit that inspired our founding: to work for the common interest and the strengthening of the Republic," he concluded.
As part of the ceremony, authorities from various invited institutions and officials from Editora Peru took an official photo on the stage.
The event concluded with a musical performance by members of the Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of its director, Carlos Ramirez.
