Ecuador's President visits Peru to hand over Pro-Tempore Presidency of CAN

09:20 | Lima, Aug. 29.

Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso is already in Peru to deliver the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Andean Community (CAN).

According to the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the dignitary arrived in Peru on Sunday night.

He landed at Air Group No. 8 in Callao accompanied by Ecuador's Foreign Affairs Minister Juan Carlos Holguin.

On August 9 this year, Rodriguez Mackay announced that Ecuadorian President Ecuador Guillermo Lasso would travel to Peru in order to hand over the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Andean Community (CAN) to the Peruvian Head of State, Pedro Castillo.

At that time, the foreign affairs minister remarked that President Lasso's visit to Peru responded to Peruvian Congress' decision not to authorize President Castillo's trip to Colombia for the swearing-in of Gustavo Petro.

On the other hand, Rodriguez Mackay reached the airport on Sunday afternoon to welcome and meet with his counterpart from Colombia, Alvaro Leyva, who will participate —along with the President of said country, Gustavo Petro— in today's activities.
