Central Bank: Peru may have recorded highest GDP growth in the region

Peru's GDP growth rate may have expanded by 2.3% in 2019, thereby making the country one of the fastest-growing economies in the region, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR) has reported.

According to the latest BCR Inflation Report, the estimated 2.3% rise places Peru as the third fastest-growing country in the region in the last year, only below Bolivia (3.2%) and Colombia (3.2%).

Peru's growth in 2019 is believed to be higher than that of Brazil (1.1%), Chile (1.0%), Uruguay (0.4%), Mexico (0.1%), Paraguay (0%), Ecuador (-0.1%), Argentina (-2.7%) and Venezuela (-28.1).

On the other hand, BCR stressed that in 2020 Peru will be the country with the highest growth in the region, above Colombia (3.2%), Paraguay (3.1%), Bolivia (3.0%), and Brazil (2.2%).

Also, the Inca nation will rank ahead of Uruguay (1.3%), Mexico (1.1%) Chile (1.0%), Ecuador (0.3%), Argentina (-1.8%) and Venezuela (-11.2%).

Moreover, the bank indicated that the projected growth of private investment for this year would be 4.2%, similar to that recorded in the previous year.
