BBVA Research Chief Economist Hugo Perea on Thursday affirmed that the continuation of Maria Antonieta Alva in the Economy and Finance Ministry —as part of the
reshuffled Cabinet led by Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano— is seen as positive by markets.
"The general impression among markets, regarding
Minister Alva's continuation in office, is positive," he stressed during the presentation of the BBVA Research macroeconomic projections.
According to Perea, the government official has proven to be suitable for the position and has a very complicated responsibility in this pandemic context.
"She seems to be a person who is well acquainted with budgetary issues, considering the good results in public investment achieved in the first two months of the year," he explained.
The economist went on to say that these results reflect the proper functioning of the ministry as well.
"She is surely surrounded by people who contributed to the achievement of such auspicious results," he expressed.
Additionally, the
BBVA Research officer stated that the expectations about MEF measures in this economic stimulus stage are positive.
"The sector achieved good results in public investment during the first two months of the year, so I would say the outlook is favorable (for the second half)," he emphasized.
