On November 17, 2023, Peru officially received the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Presidency for 2024, thus becoming the Asia-Pacific region's capital in this sense.

Peru is part of the 21 members that make up APEC. Among them are several of those with the greatest economic flow worldwide, such as China, the United States, Japan, Australia, South Korea, and Canada.

Together, these economies account for 38% of the world's population, 62% of production, as well as 48% of trade in global goods and services.

The objectives pursued by this bloc are to boost international cooperation in technical and financial aspects, as well as economic growth.

The path to fulfill this goal is to promote the strengthening of institutions and the enhancement of sectors essential for development.

These are, among others, health; innovation; science and technology; integration of women; small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The APEC leaders' summits held annually serve to advance towards that objective and monitor compliance with previous agreements.
