The
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum has approved the financing of more than US$4.9 million for 36 multisectoral cooperation projects presented by Peru, which constitutes a historic and unprecedented decision since its creation.
"This demonstrates APEC’s confidence —as an institution— in Peru, and it is anchored in the soundness of Peruvian proposals that will be developed next year, which are prioritized by Peru for the 2024 Presidency of this important Asia-Pacific forum," said Renato Reyes, Peruvian senior official before APEC, who participated at the Third APEC Senior Officials' Meeting held in August in the U.S. city of Seattle.
Of the total projects, 26 were presented in the second half of this year and were financed for an amount of US$3,839,293.
These initiatives are multisectoral and will contribute to the development of the thematic priorities to be promoted by Peru during the APEC 2024 Presidency.
The projects include the identification of good practices for the development of roadmaps to implement green hydrogen production in the Asia-Pacific region.
Another project is focused on the reduction of digital divides that help empower people to face the challenges presented by emerging artificial intelligence technologies.
The list also includes the development and promotion of access to digital cultural and creative industries for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
Other projects address the use of inclusive and innovative platforms to connect farmers with consumers; the development of principles to help prevent food loss and waste in the Asia-Pacific region, among others.
