Human rights group Amnesty International described the judge’s verdict on former president Alberto Fujimori's trial as "a milestone in the fight for justice".

The executive director of Amnesty International (AI) Peru, Silvia Loli Espinoza, said the trial of the former president (1990-2000) on human rights abuses, is considered a model of undeniable objectivity and justice.

She was satisfied with the proceedings, which were conducted under no pressure or influence, and strengthens the image of the Peruvian Justice system.

In the next hours, Amnesty International will issue a report on the development of the process, she said.

Fujimori was convicted of human rights crimes by a Special Court in Lima, which announced his condemning sentence will be released shortly.
