Agriculture Min coordinates response to COVID-19 in northern Peru

As part of a work trip to northern Peru, Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Jorge Montenegro arrived in Lambayeque to deliver nearly five tons of supplies aimed at reinforcing the fight against COVID-19 in that region and meet with local officials.


"Regarding the possibility of restoring the quarantine, we the Government evaluate the pandemic situation every Wednesday, and we will take all the necessary measures to protect the population from the impacts of the virus," he said at a press conference.

In his capacity as representative of the Executive Branch, the Cabinet member visits Lambayeque to coordinate —along with regional and local authorities— the implementation of measures to strengthen the health response to COVID-19 in this region.

Within this framework, the high-ranking official met with members of the regional COVID-19 Command at the Peruvian Air Force base. The aim of the meeting was to harmonize efforts and work on joint strategies to combat the virus.

Held on Friday, the event was also attended by Lambayeque Region Governor Anselmo Lozano, as well as officials from the Health Ministry (Minsa) and the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud).

Delivery of medical supplies

Furthermore, Minister Montenegro participated in the delivery of medical supplies consisting of 21,500 face masks, 12,000 N95 masks, 6,100 surgical gloves, 1,000 overalls, 2,870 pants, 7,150 pairs of disposable boots, 755 polycarbonate protection face shields, among other materials. 

Likewise, the delivery included drugs such as ivermectin, enoxaparin, rocuronium bromide, and azithromycin, among others.
