met with National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) head Piero Corvetto on Monday, with whom he addressed topics linked to the 2021 general elections.
During the meeting, the plan for the development of remote e-voting (abroad) was discussed.
Last week, the ONPE head reported that in
next year's elections, venues never used before (parks, parking lots, stadiums and arenas) will be turned into polling stations —a measure against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The idea, he remarked, is that voting takes place in wide and open spaces in order to avoid crowds.
In the same way, ONPE officials are considering the development of pilot projects for remote e-voting in the case of
Peruvians living abroad, members of the Armed Forces and the Police, as well as medical personnel who are on the front line in the fight against COVID-19.
The general elections will be held on
Sunday, April 11, 2021, to choose a new president, vice-president, members of Congress and Andean parliamentarians.
