on Tuesday announced that the government will promote the modernization of six regional airports in Peru through the signing of an addendum to the concession contract scheduled for the first half of 2026.
The measure will allow bringing forward US$454 million in investments to improve infrastructure and air connectivity.
The high-ranking official reported that this initiative includes the airports in Ayacucho, Andahuaylas, Arequipa, Puerto Maldonado, Puno, and Tacna.
The plan aims to strengthen logistics connectivity, boost trade, and consolidate Peru as a regional logistics hub.
The Cabinet chief specified that the intervention will be carried out through the signing of an addendum to the concession contract during the first half of the year.
This will allow bringing forward US$454 million in investments to rehabilitate pavements and optimize airport infrastructure at these terminals.
"Strengthening our airport infrastructure is a concrete commitment to competitiveness, territorial integration, and the country's economic development. Modernizing these airports will improve regional connectivity and expand our opportunities for trade and investment," she underscored.
Global logistics
The
announcement was made during the IATA World Cargo Symposium 2026, an international event taking place in Lima that brings together leaders from the global air cargo industry.
In this regard, the government's spokeswoman stressed that holding this event in Peru reinforces the country's international recognition within global logistics chains.
Likewise, the Prime Minister recalled that Peru surpassed US$90 billion in exports last year, consolidating its economic openness and integration process.
The government official noted that Peru's geographic location, combined with its macroeconomic stability and trade openness, strengthens its position as a logistics platform linking South America, North America, Europe, and Asia.
Foreign trade
Currently, more than US$20.7 billion in exports are transported by air, accounting for 23% of total Peruvian export value.
Thus, this modality has positioned itself as the country's second main route for shipping goods.
She added that air transport contributes around US$6 billion to GDP and generates about 364,000 jobs, considering both its direct impact and effect on the logistics chain and international tourism.
Trade agreements
The Cabinet chief highlighted that logistics strengthening will be driven by the country's extensive trade network, which currently includes 23 trade agreements in force.
These agreements allow Peru to access economies representing more than 82% of global GDP on a preferential basis.
The South American country currently negotiates 10 new trade agreements to diversify markets and expand the presence of Peruvian products abroad.
"We are working in a coordinated manner with the private sector, because investment, technological innovation, and international cooperation are fundamental pillars for strengthening global logistics chains and ensuring the country's economic development," she remarked.
Lastly, Miralles reaffirmed that the transitional government remains committed to economic stability, investment continuity, and the functioning of Peruvian productive engines.
