The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, on Friday announced that Interior Minister Vicente Tiburcio will travel to La Libertad region this weekend to assess the security situation and define new approaches to the control strategy, in response to the criminal incidents reported in the northern jurisdiction.

The Head of State led operations early this morning at various locations across the capital.

The operations were aimed at strengthening controls on the circulation of motorcycles carrying two riders, within the framework of the ongoing state of emergency in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao region.

In remarks to reporters, the Head of State voiced concern over the security situation in Trujillo.

Likewise, the top official said he will request the Interior Minister's presence to directly assess conditions and evaluate the implementation of new measures to address crime.

"We need to improve or adjust the strategy. That is why I will ask the Interior Minister to be physically present in Trujillo this weekend, at the latest, to verify the situation firsthand. It should be taken into account that the police chief has a solid track record within the institution," Jeri underlined.

Furthermore, the President emphasized that the Executive Branch has a new regulatory framework in place that will allow law enforcement efforts to be strengthened in regions affected by crime.

Mobilizations

Finally, the Head of State referred to the march called by the Generacion Z for the coming days.

He said it falls within the exercise of freedom of expression, a principle that—he stated— his government has consistently respected.

"As the State and as a government, we will have to know how to handle the situation in the best possible manner, so that people can express themselves freely, while always maintaining control and caution (to ensure) that everything unfolds within normal parameters and in compliance with the restrictions currently in force," he said.

He also stressed that, regarding this mobilization, the Executive Branch must guarantee order and security, ensuring that the event unfolds in accordance with the legal framework and the established restrictions.
