In an extraordinary plenary session, the National Justice Board (JNJ) unanimously approved the opening of a preliminary investigation against the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) head Piero Corvetto, following the events reported by citizens in the media during the 2026 General Elections.

In a statement released on its social media platforms, the JNJ reported that it unanimously agreed to request the institution's Evaluation and Ratification Directorate to prepare a detailed report on the ratification process of the aforementioned official.

"This report will provide additional elements for analysis in the exercise of the National Justice Board's constitutional powers," the autonomous constitutional body stated.

The institution stated that these measures are being carried out in strict compliance with its constitutional and legal functions, guaranteeing due process and respect for the rights of the individuals involved.

Finally, the JNJ reaffirmed its unwavering respect for the Political Constitution of Peru, the rule of law, and the democratic order—fundamental pillars for institutional stability and citizen trust.

The JNJ plenary convened to assess the launch of an investigation into the ONPE head at the request of the institution's chairwoman, Maria Teresa Cabrera, following delays in the distribution of electoral materials to various polling places, which prevented the installation of 211 polling tables last Sunday.
