Peru: Government measures to assist areas affected by heavy rains

The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, announced immediate measures to assist families affected by heavy rains and accelerate the recovery of impacted areas during her visit to Villa El Salvador, a district in southern Lima, last Monday.

One of the measures announced is the declaration of a state of emergency in southern Lima districts and regions affected by rains.

Likewise, the Head of State announced the restructuring of the Lima Potable Water and Sewerage Service (Sedapal) to address operational and infrastructure failures.

In the affected areas, water pumps will remain deployed, while Sedapal's hydrojet equipment will stay there permanently. The Armed Forces will also support cleanup operations.

For affected families, the installation of temporary shelters was announced, along with the establishment of community kitchens and food distribution.

Cleaning, disinfection, and fumigation work will be carried out at affected schools so that classes can resume within a week.

The top official said in remarks to the press that, according to information from the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci), the initial registration found nearly 300 people affected and 62 homes.

Additionally, 12 schools have been affected, according to the National Educational Infrastructure Program (Pronied).

During her visit to Villa El Salvador, the President spoke with affected residents and entered homes damaged by rains recorded in previous hours.
