Economy and Finance Minister Elmer Cuba projected that Peru would rank among the Latin American countries with the best economic performance this year and the next one.

"My optimism stems from my knowledge of economic development. Countries that follow Peru's path, with macroeconomic, monetary, and fiscal stability, as well as an open economy, free prices, and sound fiscal management, only grow," he told Exitosa radio.

The government official stressed that no economy in the world that meets these requirements is stagnant.

In line with this outlook, wages are also improving, Cuba highlighted.

Wages

On the other hand, the minister said wages paid in the public sector are in the middle of the market range, allowing the Government to attract qualified personnel to address various situations, such as El Niño phenomenon.

"Wages in the public sector cannot remain too far behind the wages paid in the private sector," Cuba noted.

"Thinking about cutting public-sector wages is pure demagoguery, and talented people end up leaving," he added.

State reform

Although the Cabinet member said that the issue of reducing the number of ministries is on the agenda, he acknowledged that those details are not yet available.

"Ultimately, the Peruvian State is its people. The number of ministries may be reduced, but what will make the difference is having good people who work, are honest, and know their jobs," Cuba stated.

"That is how the Peruvian State can be changed, regardless of the number of ministries," he pointed out.
