The Port of Chancay is strengthening its security and competitiveness in foreign trade through the commissioning of high-tech equipment donated by the United States, consisting of modern non-intrusive inspection scanners, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) highlighted.

Within this framework, Transportation and Communications Minister Aldo Prieto participated in the commissioning of equipment donated by the U.S. Government at the modern Chancay maritime terminal.

Both officials underscored the importance of international cooperation in promoting more efficient, secure, and competitive logistics.

The new scanners will make it possible to inspect containers without the need for physical opening, significantly reducing inspection times and logistics costs.

They will also facilitate the detection of illicit or improperly declared goods, strengthen the traceability of operations, and help preserve the cold chain for perishable products destined for international markets.

"We are taking a major step toward consolidating Peru as a strategic player in global trade," Minister Prieto stated.

"The incorporation of this technology strengthens logistics security, enhances the competitiveness of our exports, and brings us closer to the goal of turning the country into the South Pacific's main logistics hub," he emphasized.

The MTC head highlighted that the commissioning of these devices complements investments made in port infrastructure and will make it possible to accommodate the sustained growth of operations at this port without affecting cargo processing times.

The figures reflect the port's strong momentum. Between January and May 2026, the number of TEUs handled increased by 69% compared to the same period in 2025.

Similarly, exports increased by 12%, while imports rose by 77%.

Through the commissioning of these scanners, the MTC reaffirms its commitment to fostering more efficient, secure, and competitive logistics corridors capable of supporting the growth of Peru's foreign trade and strengthening the country's integration with the world's leading markets.
