Get to know COVID-19 measures announced by Peru on day 22 of emergency response

President Martin Vizcarra announced the new measures adopted by Peru as part of the state of national emergency declared in response to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the South American country.

Below is a list of the main announcements made on day 22 of the emergency response:
1. So far, Peru has 2,561 positive cases —out of a total of 20,414 samples taken. In addition, 997 citizens have already been discharged.
2. South Korea will provide scientific and technological support to Peru in the strategy implemented to contain the advance of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Inca country.
3. Compulsory social immobilization on Holy Thursday and Good Friday has been confirmed, following the proposal of the Multisectoral Commission, and the decision made over the course of the day.
4. The Head of State reiterated that the use of face masks is mandatory when outside and noted that 10 million are being produced to be distributed throughout the country starting next week.
5. He highlighted the response of public-school students across the country to the Aprendo en Casa (I Learn at Home) Program on the first day of distance learning. Also, he noted that over a million students have been online (via the online platform), while others —living in the most remote parts of the country— chose television and radio platforms.
6. The Reactiva Peru Program, which would grant low-interest loans to more than 350,000 companies starting next week, has been created through Legislative Decree No. 1455. This will secure the payment chain.
7. The top official affirmed that his Government is prepared to face the most difficult part in the coming weeks, as Peru's coronavirus (COVID-19) contagion curve will reach its highest point.
8. Economy and Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva urged regional and local governments to speed up their payments to suppliers in order to avoid disruption of the payment chain.
9. Production Minister Rocio Barrios reported that 265,000 companies have registered to access the 35% subsidy for payroll workers.
