Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra ruled out running for the 2021 elections.
"Be assured that on July 28, 2021, I will hand over the presidential sash to the successor (…)," he told CNN en Español.
The Peruvian leader went on to add his presidency is temporary and —in less than three years— he will pass on the responsibility to someone else.
"No, I will not run in 2021 (…). After that (leaving the position), I will be an ordinary citizen," he emphasized.
In this sense, Vizcarra indicated that Congress members —who currently submit bills to put a ban on presidential re-election— are wasting their time.
