13:58 | Lima, Jul. 16.

New Interior Minister Jorge Montoya on Thursday urged the citizens —who will travel domestically— to avoid crowds and respect the sanitary protocols with the aim of breaking the COVID-19 contagion chain in the country.

Remarks were made during the supervision carried out at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport to verify compliance with social distancing and biosafety measures.

"Today, we are conducting an inspection to verify compliance with health and safety protocols at the airport. It is important that people respect the rules (…)," Montoya stressed.

The Interior sector head pointed out that the Central Government is constantly evaluating all biosafety measures and implementing improvements in the protocols for entry to Jorge Chavez International Airport.

On the other hand, the high-ranking official affirmed that he joins the Interior sector filled with hope and best wishes to work for the well-being of the country.

He also stressed that the Peruvian National Police (PNP) is strengthened and focused on guaranteeing citizen security.

"There are many improvements that are being made within the PNP. Law enforcement has been working hard, we have a good amount of personnel recovered and reintegrated into their daily duties after having defeated COVID-19. From the Interior sector, we are eager to continue working for Peru," he added.

The Interior Ministry highlighted that joint control operations led by the National Police and the Armed Forces will continue for the next few days in order to give sustainability to the Government's policy of fully combating the coronavirus.
