Judicial Branch Chairman Jose Luis Lecaros called on over 24 million Peruvian nationals to vote responsibly in the parliamentary elections scheduled for January 26 to solve the constitutional crisis that occurred in Peru last year.
In his speech during a ceremony marking the opening of the Judicial Year 2020, he noted that the consequences of said
constitutional crisis, in social and economic terms —in the long term at least— are still being dealt with.
"From this stand, with the greatest respect and sense of responsibility, I can only encourage the more than 24 million Peruvians eligible to exercise their right to vote in an informed and responsible manner. (...)," the Judiciary head stated.
"Our Constitution outlined a path, now, citizens are obliged to make it their own by voting responsibly," he added.
In this respect, Lecaros remarked that Peruvians will end this stage "in the most democratic way, that is, by exercising their right to vote and shaping a new Congress."
National Justice Board
Lecaros highlighted the election of the
National Justice Board (JNJ) regular and alternate members, who "were almost unanimously elected through a public tender process."
