Gustavo Meza-Cuadra resigns as Peruvian Ambassador to U.S.

Peruvian career diplomat, Gustavo Meza-Cuadra, has resigned from the position of Peruvian Ambassador to the United States.

His resignation was tendered on Monday and made public a few minutes after Ana Cecilia Gervasi had stepped down from the post of Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The resigning ambassador stated that he laments the situation that arose in Peru around a meeting of the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte with her U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden, in Washington, D.C.

So, he tendered his resignation from the post of Ambassador to the U.S., considering that the Embassy he was in charge of had been responsible for arranging the president's visit to said country.

As is known, Mrs. Boluarte traveled to the United States to participate at the inaugural Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP) Leaders' Summit.

In the resignation letter, Meza-Cuadra also expressed appreciation for the confidence entrusted in him.

On Monday afternoon, Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola confirmed the resignation of Ana Cecilia Gervasi from the post of Foreign Affairs Minister.

In addition, the Cabinet chief pointed out that the new head of the Foreign Affairs sector would be sworn in within the next few hours or on Tuesday.

At a press conference, Otarola thanked Gervasi for her work, noting that she is a professional who defends democracy and Peru in all international forums.
