Peru President to attend UN General Assembly this week

00:00 | Lima, Sep. 23.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra will this week travel to New York (U.S.), where he will attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Pacific Alliance's Presidential Forum.

The Peruvian leader will be overseas from September 24-26.

The participation of Peru at the UN General Assembly represents an important opportunity for the promotion of national interests included in the development, cooperation, peace, and security goals of the Peruvian State's foreign policy.

The South American country is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, adding its attendance will reaffirm Peru's political commitment to the organization's efforts in favor of maintaining peace and international security.

The Head of State will also participate in the Pacific Alliance's Presidential Forum.

Pacific Alliance

The Pacific Alliance —created in 2011— is an integration initiative focused on reducing trade barriers, as well as fostering the free circulation of goods, services, capitals, and people across its territories.

The bloc relies on observer countries and represents the eighth-largest economy in the world.

Nowadays, it has become the axis of a new way of doing business in the continent.

On an annual basis, the Pacific Alliance rotates the pro-tempore presidency among its members.

Peru handed over the presidency to Chile at the summit held in Lima last July.
