President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday urged Congress to let him work when he referred to the new impeachment attempt seeking to oust him.

"There has already been an impeachment motion that did not succeed three months ago, and now, another one is submitted with no […] new information," the President expressed.

According to the Head of State, Parliament holds the country up to ridicule with this initiative, as it tries to oust a President —who is working— when 35 leaders of the region are about to arrive in Peru for the Summit of the Americas.

"They know that it is wrong, very wrong, […] I am going to defend myself. I am not going to quit," Peru's top official expressed.

"I have not done anything [wrong]. If I die today, Saint Peter will tell me I have acted correctly. My conscience is clean, and I will not allow traitors to stop me from working," Mr. Kuczynski underlined.

"That is all I ask for. Let me work," he added.

Remarks were made during his visit to South-Andean Puno region, where he announced the construction of 10 wastewater treatment plants, intended to decontaminate Lake Titicaca basin and improve locals' quality of life.

While in Puno, Mr. Kuczynski also recognized Uros and Uros Chulluni communities as ancestral, indigenous, and native peoples of the Inca country.
