Peru is expected to receive more than a million foreign tourists during Pope Francis' visit to the country on January 18-21 this year, Peru's Hotel Society (SHP) General Manager Tibisay Monsalve informed.

According to Monsalve, around 1.2 million foreign travelers were welcomed to Colombia last year on the occasion of Pope Francis' visit to this South American nation.

So, a similar number of foreign arrivals is expected in the Inca country this month bearing in mind the number of Pope Francis' followers.

Monsalve detailed the hotel industry in Peru is prepared to accommodate the many visitors coming to see the Supreme Pontiff, as well as the 2018 Dakar Rally spectators.

The organization of both events will be beneficial to the industry, considering most hotels see lower demand for rooms in January.

As for the Holy Father's visit, some foreigners will opt to stay at their relatives or friends' homes.
