Peru's total exports increased 23.84% in April 2018 from the same month last year, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported.
Said expansion was mainly underpinned by higher shipments from sectors such as
farming,
fishery, chemical, textile, iron-steel, metal-mechanic, and non-metallic mining.
Similarly,
traditional sales expanded 22.43% in the analyzed month.
In this sense, the most demanded products came from the mining sector —such as
copper, zinc, lead, tin, and silver— as well as oil and natural gas in the hydrocarbon sector.
Imports
On the other hand,
Peruvian imports rose 16.11% last April compared to the same month the previous year, thus marking 17 months of continuous growth.
This outcome was explained by higher purchases of commodities and intermediate products (+17.07%), consumer goods (+15.61%), as well as construction materials and capital goods (+14.98%).
