Peru President to attend Pope Francis' Mass in Lima

14:52 | Lima, Jan. 4.

President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski will attend the mass Pope Francis will celebrate at Las Palmas Air Base in Lima this month, informed Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Alfonso Grados, head of the Papal Visit Organization Committee in Peru.

"The President will certainly attend mass at Las Palmas," Grados said.

The minister underscored he currently makes arrangements with the President to ensure the Head of State's presence at Pope Francis' main events in the cities: Puerto Maldonado and Trujillo.

Cities

Pope Francis will arrive in Lima on January 18.

On the following day, the Holy Father will travel to Puerto Maldonado, capital of rainforest Madre de Dios region.

On January 20, he will head to La Libertad region's capital city of Trujillo, located in Peru's northern coast.

According to the schedule, the Supreme Pontiff will hold a multitudinous mass at Lima's Las Palmas Air Base on January 21.

This will be the first time —in almost 30 years— that a Pope visits Peru. As is known, Pope John Paul II traveled to the Inca country back in May 1988.
