Peru President mourns Eyvi Agreda's death

18:19 | Moyobamba (San Martin region), Jun. 1.

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday expressed his deepest sympathy over the recent death of femicide victim Eyvi Agreda, who was set on fire inside a public transport bus last April.

On May 1, the Head of State visited Agreda to monitor her health status and expressed full support to the relatives.

"This young woman was viciously attacked by a person who certainly has no forgiveness. We feel extremely saddened," the statesman expressed.

The 22-year-old victim passed away this morning at Lima-based Guillermo Almenara Hospital.

She had been attacked by Carlos Hualpa, who currently serves a 9-month preventive detention at Ancon I Prison.

It must be noted Agreda underwent more than 15 surgeries to treat the burns, which covered 60% of her body.
