The powers request submitted by the Executive Branch to Congress does not entail asking for a blank check, President Martin Vizcarra said as he remarked Peru needs more investment to make progress.
With this measure, his administration aims at improving some aspects of the Peruvian economy.
"It's not a blank check. What we propose will enter Parliament for review (...)," the statesman expressed.
These powers are requested in order to shorten the length of debates on bills at Congress, a State Power that exerts control over the enacted ones.
Private investment
Furthermore, President Vizcarra pointed out his administration promotes investment since he is aware Peru needs more
private investments to generate economic growth aimed at moving forward.
"We're not going to do anything to scare off
private investment, but we must correct some things that are wrong," he stated.
The Peruvian leader went on to add everyone agrees that tax collection in the Inca country is low (12%-13%), the lowest in Latin America.
Lastly, he noted there is a large number of demands in health and
education sectors, and to meet them the Government must collect taxes and
cut some expenses.
