President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday visited Peru's northern Tumbes region to supervise cleaning and channelization works on Zarumilla River.
"We
are working on it […] I promise that I will work for the entire nation —with all of you— until the last day in office," he was quoted as saying.
As is known, Zarumilla River was affected by
Coastal El Niño, a climate phenomenon that hit Peru's northern coastal areas in early 2017.
As part of the works, heavy machinery is being used to remove the debris blocking the riverbed.
According to Araoz, the initiative is intended to protect citizens during the rainy season, which is a key component of the
Reconstruction with Changes Plan implemented by the Government.
