President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday expressed his joy over the recent Swiss Federal Court decision, allowing Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero to play in the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup.
"I'm glad and happy, like 32 million Peruvians, to see that our national squad is complete. We are happy because they are a team led by a
great captain such as Paolo Guerrero," the statesman expressed.
"Today, we all woke up with this pleasant news that makes us optimistic," he added.
In this sense, the Peruvian leader considered "everyone did their bit" to achieve this favorable result.
"We could not disregard this situation, which not only affected a single player but the whole country (...)," he pointed out.
In addition, the President recalled he always had confidence that Guerrero would join the national team and participate in the World Cup.
"I had confidence, but I could not express it since I did not want to create false expectations. Yet, I was confident Paolo would certainly participate (in the tournament)," he concluded.
