President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday morning bid farewell to the national soccer team that will travel to Europe —in a few hours— to participate in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The presidential delegation arrived at Lima-based National Sports Village (Videna) at 11:00 AM (local time).
On this occasion, the Head of State received a Peruvian soccer jersey with his surname on the back. It was handed over by coach
Ricardo Gareca. In return, he gave team members a Peruvian flag.
It must be noted the statesman watched last night's game from the stadium's presidential balcony.
The match marked the Inca squad's farewell to its country before heading for Europe for its last two friendlies. Within this framework, it will face Saudi Arabia in Switzerland (June 3) and host-team Sweden (June 9).
As is known, Peru qualified for the FIFA World Cup after 36 years. The squad is placed in
Group C, along with France, Denmark, and Australia.
The Incas' first match will be played against Denmark (June 16). Then, they will clash with France (June 21) before facing Australia (June 26).
