Ambassador Nestor Popolizio on Monday became the new Foreign Affairs Minister of Peru, thus replacing outgoing Cayetana Aljovin.
Popolizio is a lawyer and career diplomat with 36 years of service experience.
Also, he graduated from Lima's Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos with a bachelor's degree in law.
The newly sworn-in minister completed a postgraduate course in international political relations at the International Institute of Public Administration (IIAP) in Paris, France.
He has been Permanent Representative of Peru to the
United Nations in New York, as well as Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Colombia, Brazil, and Portugal.
At the Foreign Affairs Ministry, he served as Under-Secretary for American Affairs and Deputy Secretary-General.
In 2009, he was named Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic.
Additionally,
Peruvian Congress gave him the Medal of Honor in the Grade of Grand Officer in recognition of his professional career.
