Peru's mining and hydrocarbon sector continued expanding, as it rose 3.19% in 2017 after having increased 5.55% last December, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) revealed Thursday.

Mining subsector's growth in December 2017 contributed to higher production of iron (46.1%), molybdenum (16.6%), copper (7.4%), zinc (3.8%), and silver (2%).

Thus, metallic mining expanded 6.6% in the twelfth month of the year.

On the other hand, hydrocarbon subsector's production of natural gas and natural gas liquids decreased 8.8% and 6.8%, respectively. Nonetheless, crude oil extraction increased 25.7%.

It must be noted mining and hydrocarbon sector had previously increased 9.5% (2015) and 16.3% (2016).
