Peru: Martin Vizcarra to be sworn in as President on Friday

14:25 | Lima, Mar. 22.

First Vice-President Martin A. Vizcarra Cornejo will take the oath of office as President of the Republic on Friday at Congress' plenary session and then deliver a speech, Parliament's Senior Official Jose Cevasco said today.

According to Cevasco, the swearing-in ceremony will depend on the session concluding the debate on the resolution accepting Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's resignation as Peru's top official.

He also noted the resigning Head of State would —on Thursday afternoon— send Congress the presidential sash, the hallmark with which he took power on July 28, 2016.

Mr. Vizcarra will be sworn in by Parliament Chairman Luis Galarreta on the occasion.
