Peru: Margot Liendo, one of Shining Path terrorists to be released

15:22 | Lima, Apr. 18.

Peru's Judicial Branch has ordered house arrest for Margot Liendo, member of Shining Path —the terrorist group that spread terror among the civilian population between the 1980s and 2000s.

The following is a list of facts about this soon-to-be-released terrorist.

- Margot Liendo Gil was born on March 15, 1949. She is 69 years old now.

- She was a member of Shining Path's Northern and Central Committees.

- During the said violent period, Liendo was known as "Comrade Noemi."

- She was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crime of terrorism —a sentence she completed, although she was kept under preventive detention by the Judiciary.

- She is currently prosecuted for the Tarata Street bombing in Lima's Miraflores district and the Soras community (in Ayacucho region) massacre.

Such crime took place on July 16, 1984, when 117 people from the Soras peasant community and seven adjoining areas were killed by Shining Path terrorists.

- According to Liendo's statements to judicial authorities, she will serve house arrest in Lima's Santa Anita district.

As is known, Shining Path terrorist group member Osman Morote will be released to house arrest, too.

It must be noted Peru's most wanted terrorist, Abimael Guzman, was captured on September 12th, 1992, marking the defeat of Shining Path —the most bloodthirsty and cruel terrorist group the country has ever seen.
